JUNIOR SECTION AIMS

"Since we cannot know what knowledge will be most needed in the future it will be senseless to try and teach it in advance. Instead we should try to turn out people who love learning so much and learn so well that they will learn whatever needs to be learned"

John Holt

The Junior Section aims to consolidate and extend the work of Early Childhood.

A balanced curriculum including English, Mathematics, Science, IT, French, History, Geography, Art and Technology, PE, Music and Citizenship is delivered to all children. This curriculum and the learning environments in which it is delivered aim to foster the intellectual, social, physical and social development of each child. These aims are further met through the implementation of 'Brain Gym' - a sequence of physical exercises to encourage left, right and whole brain thinking.

Children's learning takes place in a variety of ways - from working individually, in pairs, in groups and as a whole class. Teachers have high expectations of achievement, effort and co-operation from their students and are responsible for planning and delivering purposeful, relevant and suitably challenging activities.

Our hope, in the Junior Section, is to develop socially competent, self-motivated children, who share a love of learning, have positive self-esteem and are not afraid of making mistakes.

Students receive specialist teaching in French and ICT while all other subjects are the responsibility of dedicated class teachers. In addition to their academic studies children are given a wide range of extra curricular activities to choose from such as swimming, singing, cricket and embroidery.
