YEARBOOK

A school yearbook is published annually, at the end of the third term of each academic year. It features class photographs and work of the children in all sections of the school, as well as reports on a variety of aspects of school life.

LETTERS HOME

A great deal of information is sent to parents and guardians by letter. Letters sent to entire sections or indeed the whole school will often provide information concerning the curriculum or activities taking place outside the normal curriculum. Parents will always be sent a letter if their child is involved in a trip or off-site work, and their permission in writing is required before their child can participate in the activity.

Individual letters will be sent home from time to time. Typically these will inform parents and guardians if their child is doing particularly well at school, or conversely, if there are any problems requiring attention.

THE SCHOOL WEB SITE

You have found The International School web site at: www.internationalschool.sc.

This contains, among other things, examples of children's work and information concerning future events at the school. Recent activities of note are chronicled in the Latest News section.

ILLNESS

Any student missing school through illness must bring a signed note from his/her parent or guardian upon returning to school. This note, which should be addressed to the class teacher or form tutor, must mention if the child is continuing with medication once back at school. If so, then prescribed medication must be handed in at the school office first thing in the morning. Staff will administer the medication as appropriate. No student is to take medication into class under any circumstances.

If you need to remove your child from school during the school day for any reason it is important that you notify the class teacher/form tutor in writing. In an emergency telephone notification may be given.

If your child is taken ill at school you will be telephoned and asked to collect him/her.

MEETINGS WITH TEACHERS

Parent Consultation Meetings are held periodically in each section of the school. At these meetings, which are often held to coincide with the issue of reports, parents can see examples of their child's work and discuss his or her progress with class and subject teachers. Heads of Section and the Head teacher are also available to meet parents at these meetings.

Parents and teachers also meet less formally, particularly in the lower sections of the school, when children are being dropped off or collected. This is a valuable aspect of school life, however it is suggested that whenever parents wish to discuss a specific issue with a teacher, an appointment is made for a meeting. This arrangement can be made directly by telephone through the school office.

CURRICULUM BOOKLETS

These documents are issued during the first term of each academic year. They contain information concerning what each class will be learning and doing during the academic year. Curriculum booklets keep parents informed of the general class programme and are particularly useful when reports are issued, as parents can relate reported outcomes to the material in the booklet.

They are available upon request at the School Office.

PROBLEMS

If you have any concerns or queries concerning your child's progress at school you are initially invited to contact the class teacher or form tutor to make an appointment to discuss the matter.

THE PARENT TEACHER ASSOCIATION

All parents are warmly invited to become active supporters of PTA initiatives, which are organised regularly to raise additional funds for the school. These events are organised by an elected committee of parents and teachers.

Additionally, the PTA will be offering parents the chance to experience 'sample' lessons across the age range and curricula, commencing in 2004.
